First, what temperatures are "room, ambient, and refrigerated"?
We use the words often, but few people know the exact ranges. Here are the definitions under the Korea Food Code (the standard for food and health supplements).

The key point is that ambient and room temperature are not the same. Ambient is a narrow 15–25℃, while room temperature is a wide 1–35℃. That makes products labeled for "ambient storage" far more sensitive. For reference, the Korean Pharmacopoeia — the standard for pharmaceuticals — defines ambient as 15–25℃ and room temperature as 1–30℃, so its upper limit for room temperature differs slightly. Either way, the storage requirement printed on the product's packaging takes precedence, so check the label's storage conditions before handing anything over.
Why summer is the problem — when the warehouse breaks the limit
The issue is summer. An ambient warehouse with no air conditioning heats up sharply inside during a heat wave. In cases where the media measured the interior of un-cooled ambient logistics warehouses in summer, the top floors were reported to reach around 35℃, with some sections rising even higher. It is a summer reality for any warehouse that isn't cooled. Two things overlap here.
- Falling out of spec — For a product labeled "ambient storage (15–25℃)," once the warehouse spends long stretches above 25℃, it falls outside the labeled storage condition. Sustained heat can lead to quality changes or a shortened shelf life.
- Humidity — Summer brings not just heat but high humidity. Moisture lifts labels, softens boxes, and where temperature swings are large it causes condensation (dew) that can affect the goods.
Products are also exposed to heat during delivery. The inside of a summer delivery vehicle and the loading-wait area run hot, so even goods kept well in the warehouse pick up a few hours of variability in transit. This stretch is hard to control completely, but raising turnover to cut exposure time lowers the risk.
Cosmetics are a little different
Rather than a uniform "store at X ℃" like food, cosmetics are usually labeled at the level of "store away from heat and direct sunlight." That said, some formulations are weak against heat. Sustained heat can break an emulsion and cause separation, shift color or fragrance, and reduce the stability of certain functional ingredients. So you have to choose the right warehouse

If a product label says "keep refrigerated," it must go in a refrigerated warehouse; if it says "avoid direct sunlight and heat" or its ingredients are delicate, consider a temperature-controlled warehouse.
