Truck Loading Calculator — How does it pick the vehicle?
Enter the width, depth, and height of your box and the quantity, and for each vehicle bed from 1-ton to 11-ton, the tool compares all six box orientations to calculate how many fit in one vehicle. It then automatically recommends the smallest vehicle that can carry the entire load as the top pick.
The ranking puts the vehicle needing the fewest trips first, then the lower tonnage (more economical) for the same number of trips, and finally the vehicle with the smaller bed within the same tonnage. If everything cannot fit in one vehicle, the number of trips needed is shown as well.
Vehicle bed specifications (typical figures)
These are the vehicles included and their approximate interior bed dimensions. They are commonly used figures that vary slightly from vehicle to vehicle, so we recommend confirming the exact specifications before booking.
- 1-ton Cargo / Wing Body — Length 2,800 × Width 1,600 × Height 1,700 mm
- 1.4-ton Cargo / Wing Body — Length 3,100 × Width 1,600 × Height 1,700 mm
- 3.5-ton Wing Body — Length 5,000 × Width 2,100 × Height 2,000 mm
- 3.5-ton Wide Body — Length 4,800 × Width 2,300 × Height 2,000 mm
- 3.5-ton Extra-Long Wing — Length 5,800 × Width 2,800 × Height 2,000 mm
- 5-ton Wing Body — Length 6,200 × Width 2,300 × Height 2,300 mm
- 5-ton Plus Wing — Length 8,400 × Width 2,300 × Height 2,300 mm
- 11-ton Wing Body — Length 10,200 × Width 2,400 × Height 2,300 mm
What to consider alongside the loading calculation
- Load weight (tonnage) — Tonnage is fundamentally a permissible-weight rating. Heavy, compact cargo may require a higher tonnage due to weight limits even when there is spare volume.
- Loading/unloading method — The actual load rate varies depending on whether a forklift or manual labor is used and whether cargo is palletized or loaded piece by piece.
- Load stability — Heavy boxes on the bottom, light boxes on top. Fragile cargo needs space for cushioning and securing.
- Body type — Even at the same tonnage, bed size and loading convenience differ across wing body, cargo, wide body, and extra-long configurations.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the vehicle recommended?
Among the vehicles that can carry all your boxes in one trip, we recommend the lowest tonnage first, and the vehicle with the smaller bed within the same tonnage. If everything cannot fit in one vehicle, we suggest the vehicle that requires the fewest trips.
Is load weight (tonnage) factored in?
This tool recommends vehicles based on bed volume and dimensions. Real trucks have a permissible load weight for each tonnage, so heavy cargo may require a higher tonnage due to weight limits even when there is spare volume. Factor in the total cargo weight for the final booking.
The bed dimensions differ slightly from my actual vehicle.
Truck beds differ slightly by manufacturer, model year, and body specification. This tool uses commonly accepted figures, so treat it as a reference; if precise loading matters, confirm with your dispatcher using the actual measured bed dimensions.
Can several types of boxes be calculated at once?
Yes. Use '+ Add Box' to enter several boxes of different sizes, and the tool simulates the mixed load carried together in one vehicle and calculates the vehicle type and number of trips needed.
The utilization doesn't reach 100%.
Filling the bed with no gaps raises the utilization, but real loading and unloading needs room for aisles, cushioning, and load stability, so getting close to 100% is difficult. Treat utilization as a reference indicator of how efficiently the vehicle is used.
Can you also handle dispatch for the cargo I calculated?
Yes. RUNIC runs truck brokerage covering every vehicle from motorcycle courier to 25-ton wing body. We reliably source vehicles, dispatch, and settle freight charges to match your loading calculation. Get in touch through the inquiry below.
* Bed dimensions are typical figures that vary slightly from vehicle to vehicle, and calculations are based on volume and dimensions. Recommendations follow the order of trips needed → tonnage → bed size, and actual loading may vary with weight distribution, loading/unloading method, and load stability.
